The Characters
-
Mr John Martin
51 years old, from Scunthorpe. A tall, solidly built man; he has a warm, friendly face, but he is nobody's fool.
He is the Headmaster of Hillside Primary school, in leafy Hertfordshire.
-
Kate Rudman
A TV executive, manicured, well-spoken, mother in her 40s, who struggles with the challenges of motherhood.
She is a no nonsense, successful businesswoman; socially selective, with a distinct air of self-importance, and never minces her words.
-
Phil Tucker
Head of P.E.
Athletic build, kind, outgoing, self-assured, approachable, no airs and graces, handsome, late 20s.
Rooted in integrity.
-
Emily Coombes
A mother in her mid-20s.
She is incredibly enthusiastic and energised; she is a kind, sensitive, and a sweet-natured person with a distinctly high pitched voice. (Think Betty from “Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘"Em”.)
Emily is always keen to help, her glass is always half full.
-
Ula Andrejeva
Mid-30s, stoic, of Eastern European origin.
Takes immense pride in her appearance.
Straight-talking, very capable, with a generous spirit; she is the backbone of the PTA group.
-
Donna Parker
A mother in her 40s.
Stern, tight-lipped, cynical and opinionated; her glass is always half empty.
Donna doesn’t mince her words and lacks enthusiasm for the PTA.
-
Simon Mortimer
A dad in his 30s; kind, but of a physically awkward disposition.
A man of few words, he doesn't like to take up space physically or verbally, is painfully shy and overly apologetic.
He is the treasurer of the PTA and an accountant by profession.
-
Frankie Scott
A mother in her late 20s.
Often heavily made up and well manicured. She has the demeanour of an ‘Essex Girl’ with a lot of swagger.
She is enthusiastic and keen to make a good first impression.
A very likeable, open-hearted person.
-
Mrs Broygla
(This role will be doubled up by one of the company) Late 60s with a regional accent.
We never see Mrs Broygla’s face; just her hands and legs and we hear her dulcet tones.
She is stuck in a particular era; she’s part of the fabric of the school, with a heart of gold but a busybody temperament.
Deeply protective of Mr Martin and treats him like her son.
-
Graham Weasley
(Appears on screen only) Early 60s.
He is in the education department for the local authority.
Stuffy, lacking empathy and humour, a stickler for following rules; self righteous and always dressed in a smart three piece suit and bow tie.
